Jono McCleery speaks to my soul

Jono McCleery, the London based solo artist signed to Ninja Tune, completed his first album ‘Darkest Light’ independently in 2008 which was self-produced and funded by fans, including folk-star Vashti Bunyan and BBC radio DJs Tom Robinson and Fiona Talkington, and is now available worldwide on iTunes. Jono has toured with the likes of Gil Scott Heron, Bonobo, Fink, Jose Gonzales, Little Dragon, Jamie Woon and Portico Quartet and sites his main influences as John Coltrane, Nick Drake, Bill Withers, Jeff Buckley, Nina Simone and John Martyn. His new album ‘There Is’ is due to be released 5th September 2011.

“Jono’s music is timeless. Music that is unperishable, that reflects past, present and future in an instant. Likened to having the melodies and rich vocals of John Martyn, the darkness of Nick Drake, the soul of Marvin Gaye and the romantic indulgence of Jeff Buckley; Jono is defining a new folk/soul sound of our time.”    via

(album version here )

Tomorrow, at the same time

The same feeling will arise

And you will know by then to go

Down the straight and narrow

So move onto your painted place

And forget about which way you face

There is no rain coming over

Your silhouette imprinted on mine

Binds us wholly and keeps us trying

I never doubt this I never fear

The road you take will lead you here

So while you wait for the sun to rise again

Think of us dancing in the rain

***From the last album
